Planting California Natives by California Natives March 2025

The goals are to plant native plants in theses fire scar areas, teaching youth about planting native plants and their uses, collecting and cleaning the seeds and how to be an ancestral steward of the lands that we call home, as generations before us called home too.

Recently tribal youth, the Department of Natural Resources & the EPA Department have been doing great work on the Reforestation Project in local burn scar areas after the North Complex/Bear Fires.

We have been mitigating these environmental impacts by planting native trees and shrubs, removing invasive plants, increasing the forest cover, and promoting the recovery of the natural ecosystem. The restoration of important native species and protection of numerous areas of cultural importance central to our traditions as well as making intergenerational connections with our youth.

As of today, with the youths’ help, 100 ponderosa pines were planted, 40 INVASIVE Scotch Broom were removed & 25 California Elderberry plants were planted.
